To ensure the sustainable, effective, and continuous implementation of the “Strengthening the Capacities of Philippine Local Governments in Disaster Risk Reduction (SCPLG-DRR)” project, LGA organized a Business Planning Workshop last July 18-19, 2016 at the LGA Commitment Room. The said business planning workshop was attended by the Regional Directors of NIR and Region 11, Provincial Directors and Provincial DRRM Officers of the four pilot provinces to wit: Northern Samar, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Davao Occidental. Representatives from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) were present, giving a brief background of the project and expectations from the partnerships with the four pilot provinces.
Through the two-day workshop, the participants were able to share experiences on DRR CCA initiatives and be familiar with the previous partnerships of AECID with Nueva Ecija and Albay. Dr. Abraham Pascua, the former DILG Provincial Director of Nueva Ecija, shared their DRR systems they have established. The “Albay Experience” on DRR CCA was discussed by Dr. Cedric Daep, Head of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO).
The Workshop also served as a venue for the first viewing of the AVP of the National Disaster Preparedness Plan, the country’s strategic plan to ensure the avoidance or reduction of loss of lives and assets when hazards strike.
At the end of the Workshop, the participants were able to identify and agree on the critical next steps for the continuity of the SCPLG DRR Project.
